One casing that shows Beowulf is an epic hero is the fight with Grendel. Grendel, a troll-like monster who is pain by singing, attacks the hall, killing and devouring many of Hrothgars warriors while they cat sleep. Hrothgar and his people, baffled against Grendels attacks, abandon Herot. Beowulf, the warrior from Geatland, hears of Hrothgars troubles and leaves his homeland to help Hrothgar. Beowulf and his men spend the shadow in Herot. Beowulf bears no weapon as Grendel is immune to humankind weapons, and because this would be an unfair advantage over the unarmed beast. subsequently they fall asleep, Grendel enters the hall and attacks, devouring Beowulfs men. Beowulf leaps up to clench Grendels hand. The ii strife until it seems as though the hall might collapse. Beowulfs soldiers suffer their swords and rush to his aid, but their blades cannot pierce Grendels skin. Finally, Beowulf tears Grendels arm from his remains at the shoulder and Grendel runs to his home in the marshes to die.
A second base instance is the battle with Grendels mother. After celebrating Grendels death, Hrothgar and his men sleep in Herot. Grendels mother, angered by the death of her son, appears and attacks the hall. She kills Hrothgars most certain(p) warrior in revenge for Grendels death.

Beowulf tracks Grendels mother to her lair under a lake. Beowulf prepares himself for battle; he is presented with a sword, Hrunting, by Unferth. Beowulf goes to her lair and battles with Grendels mother, but soon realizes his weapons cannot hurt her. In the end of that battle he is successful.
The third instance is the battle with the dragon. Beowulf returns home and ultimately becomes king of his own people.
