Vincent van Gogh was born March 30, 1853 in Groot-Zundert, a small crossroads in the southern Netherlands. Vincent was the firstborn of three sisters, Elisabeth, Anna, and Wil, and two brothers Theo and Cor. In 1877, he moved to Amsterdam to enroll in a theology school but was denied admittance. Thereafter, he moved to Borinage, a ember mining district in Belgium, where he got a put-on as a lay minister. Seeing what the poverty was the worry there, he gave away all of his belongings and created an obsession with the idyll life.
