Rene Descartes
Rene Descartes also known as Renatus Cartesius was a French philosopher, mathematician, scientist, and writer who spent untold of his life in the Dutch nation (Wikipedia 1). It has been said that he is the develop of modern philosophy, and much of western philosophy is a response to his writings which tranquillize continue to be studied today. Descartes influence of mathematics is manifest also, the Cartesian coordinate system, and the creation of Analytic Geometry, and discovered an ahead of time form of the law of conservation of momentum (Wikipedia 1). Initially Descartes arrives at a single principle: Cogito ergo sum which in English translates to I think, therefore I am, he concludes that, if he doubted, then something or someone was doing the doubting, therefore the rattling fact that he doubted proved his very existence (Wikipedia 1).
Descartes guess also provided the basis for calculus of Newton and Leibniz (Wikipedia 1).One was the creation of the Cartesian Geometry which used algebra to describe geometry (Wikipedia 1). He also invented superscripts to show the bureau or exponents, for example the 2 is used in x squared to indicate squaring (Wikipedia 1).



Descartes was an odd man who thought of everything in a completely different way, and wanted to do solely that. But still he was very brilliant at mathematics and philosophy. One final achievement of Descartes was he was the jump to use letters of the alphabet to represent known qualities, and the last letters to represent unknown ones.
